The Optimal Age for Foreign Language Learning

Foreign languages bring a lot of benefits to people. So “The optimal starting age for language learning” has always been a discussion topic among linguists. Although there isn’t a common decision, every age group has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Childhood, especially ages 0 to 7, is a very efficient period for language learning. Young brains are better at understanding and processing information than others. That helps children to speak fluently. Also they use language without minding mistakes and it assists the speed of language developing. But starting to learn a foreign language from an early age could cause some problems. Children may have a hitch on their main language which diseffects his/her lessons and relationships with his/her relatives or friends.

On the other hand, adulthood has distinctive profits compared to others. Since the brain is more advanced and productive in this era, adults can learn grammatical rules consciously and can broaden their vocabulary systematically. Also their motivation can last longer if they learn a language for educational purposes or their work.

In conclusion, there isn’t any ideal age for language learning. Every age group has different opportunities and boundaries. The most crucial point in learning is never giving up.
